Toshiba Announces New HD DVD player pricing structure! January 11th 2008 As expected, Players now start at just $149 MSRP! We got word yesterday that HD DVD players will now start at the amazing price of just $149. We had expected this revised pricing, as HD DVD has been keen to bring this format to the mass market as quickly as possible, since they have both the player pricing, as well as the replication capacity to support it. This means that today there may be about a million owners of HD DVD dedicated players, but tomorrow there may be A LOT MORE owners of HD DVD players alongside all of us. Under the new pricing scheme, the A3 base model HD DVD player will be priced at a Suggested Retail Price of just $149. The 1080p A30 model will be priced at only $199, and the top model, the A35, will sell for only $299 - which amazingly, used to be the MSRP of the base-model A3 till now! We expect to hear a lot more news, based on reports of HD DVD strategy sessions in tha last few days. Here is the official Toshiba press release on the price announcements.
