Dear Walt Disney Studios and Walt Disney Pictures,
There are now approaching 1 Million Dedicated HD DVD players in households everywhere. These are players that were bought for only ONE specific purpose - play movies! As you can see from our letters, we are FAR more motivated to demand and buy movies in the HD DVD format, than the majority of videogame owners on the other format, most of whom do not care about the “player” included in their game console.
Since September 2nd, until this past Friday, December 7, the Nielsen First Alert sales numbers have averaged about 38% for HD DVD sales as a percentage of the overall HD Media market. In fact, some recent weeks have been as close as 51:49 and 55:45. This has shown how the HD DVD format has continued to gain strength, despite various desperate campaigns by the other format, such as “Two-for-one” disc offers like they are running this week to fight the release of the Bourne Ultimatum.
What will happen to Bluray sales now that Sony has announced that they will soon start movie downloads for the PS3, which makes up around 90% of Bluray players??
And in a survey published yesterday, 43% of HDTV buyers are looking to buy HD DVD, compared to just 29% for the other format. There is no question that were studios like yourselves to release your movies on HD DVD, that the true strength of the format would be seen. And the better pricing of HD DVD is why Walmart and others were able to sell 100,000 players in just one weekend in early November.
Please, Disney; nearly a million families want to buy your movies on the HD DVD format. Isn't that enough already? Please give your customers what they want.
HD DVDs are said to be easier and less costly to produce, with higher production yields - and there is said to be much more production capacity than for the other format. Also, HD DVD players are still 1/2 to 1/3 the price of the other format’s players that meet the full specification of the format. The other format now appears to be running “clearance” sales on obsolete BD 1.0 players that cannot even meet their official spec. Yet you can be confident that every HD DVD owner will get the same rich experience from any title that you produce for the HD DVD format.
Please reconsider your policy and start releasing to us, your loyal fans, on HD DVD. I know you were promised that the other format would “win”, but even the chairman of Sony has now admitted that this has not happened and the two formats are, in his own words, at a "stalemate". Surely getting sales from BOTH formats is the best way to make money and grow the Hi Def market?
Sincerely,

Dear 20th Century Fox Home Entertainment,

What will happen to Bluray sales now that Sony has announced that they will soon start movie downloads for the PS3, which makes up around 90% of Bluray players?? And the Bluray promise of extra security also seems to have fallen through, as BD+ has been cracked.

Dear Blockbuster Video,
There are now approaching 1 Million Dedicated HD DVD players in households everywhere. These are players that were bought for only ONE specific purpose - play movies! As you can see from our letters, we are FAR more motivated to demand and buy movies in the HD DVD format, than the majority of videogame owners on the other format, most of whom do not care about the “player” included in their game console.

What will happen to Bluray rentals now that Sony has announced that they will soon start movie downloads for the PS3, which makes up around 90% of Bluray players??
And in a survey published yesterday, 43% of HDTV buyers are looking to buy HD DVD, compared to just 29% for the other format. There is no question in our minds that were to properly stock the format at all your stores that the true strength of the format would be clearly seen. And the better pricing of HD DVD is why Walmart and others were able to sell 100,000 players in just one weekend in early November.
Please, Blockbuster; nearly a million families want to rent movies on the HD DVD format. Isn't that enough already? Please give your customers what they want.
HD DVDs are said to be less costly to produce, with higher yields, than the other format - and there is said to be much more production capacity than the other format. Also, HD DVD players are still 1/2 to 1/3 the price of the other format’s players that meet the full specification of the format. And, the other format now appears to be running clearance sales on obsolete players that cannot meet their spec.
Please reconsider and do the right thing - start stocking HD DVD releases at all your stores. After all, we notice that you have decided to do so in Canada, due to your competitors – and we notice that your competition is now stocking them in the USA also!
How logical is it to refuse to carry what your customers are demanding? Surely that’s not the most astute way to make money?
Sincerely,
.
